Do I need to test magnesium

I really never have... Is it that essential to test if I am having no problem keeping my calcium and carbonate at a good range.

If you keep hard corals and you are not doing regular and consistent water changes then you need to test for magnesium.

After Ca and Alk, it is the most important thing you should be watching.

If you don't have any problem with your Ca/Alk, then your Mg is probably fine. Still, it's good to have the test kit -- but it's a parameter I only feel the need to check maybe once every few months. So it's low-priority.
