question on chalice and favia growth on plug

I have placed a chalice and a favia on 2 reef plugs that I located on the bottom of the tank on the sand, with them sitting slightly off the sand.

How do these corals grow. Will they grow wide around the plug or because they are around sand, they will plate upwards.

They grow outward.I would avoid putting them directly on the sand when they grow out.
