there is no point for a nano. you realize how easy it would be to overdose? why take that rise? do u have nitrates? if so how much? there are much easier ways to lower nitrates in a nano. i would not vodka dose. def not. why take that risk? depending on what size nano, cleaning the pads and a 30-40 percent RO water change and you should have no nitrates soon after

I did it with my solana. Had great results. I don't think it's any more risk as long as you follow instructions.

BTW, why not just dose Zeovit? So much more controlled and proven nutrient export. It's the same theory as vodka except vodka dosing is like the home remedy version while zeo is the bausch & laumb.

you could also use the instant ocean natural nitrate reducer, this almost like the n\p biopellets except you dont need a reactor to use, been using this since the swap and does work well.

I agree. Just make sure you read, read, read, ask questions, think you know everything about it, have a plan, and then read some more. (LOL)

I don't know what your actual level of experience in the hobby is, but when I see a post like this in the Beginners Forum my reaction is that beginners should not be playing around with carbon dosing of any kind. Learn the basics of good reef husbandry first, get some experience under your belt, develop a sense of and ability to detect the health of your system and then you can worry about tinkering with more advanced techniques like carbon dosing.

lol ive been reefing for 6 years and freshwater for about 9 years.not so much a noob i tend to read lot of articles about reefing and it seems most of the info is repetitive but insiteful none the less.its for a pico 3gal tank all parameters are balanced except nitrates and ur occasional diatoms no more then 1-6 its probably lack of flow behind the rock work. i was just asking cuz it fasinated me. and for how long the tank has been running about 3 years. the nitrates dont seem to have any real negative affects except diatoms, but think if my tank looks good now how much better it would be nitrate free :)

and as for posting it in the beginner forum i knew it would grab the attention of the more experienced hobbyists.
just curious on your opinions of dosing with vodka and if you have dosed did it have any major/negative effect on livestock( fish, coral, inverts)?

Very tempting to start dosing but for everything you dose remember you'll have to continue doing it all the time. Also, i feel there will always be something else you'll have to do to offset the results of dosing something. For every action there's a reaction and in reefing for every action there's like 6 reactions, 20 water changes, and sleepless nights. Like you said...change the flow a bit, put a rowaphos in ur sump, etc. my 2 cents.

its for a pico 3gal tank

You could spit in that sized tank and call it a water change... why would you want to complicate it? If it ain't broke....

Seriously, I would just keep a rubbermaid of mixed saltwater around and do a quart or two water change every couple of days. Your nitrates will drop and it's actually easier to do than measuring out a few ml of vodka.

I vodka dose and amino acid dose as well, I am using birght well products except for esv. I am seeing excelent growth and I also have a skimmer 2 that of the tank volum a mtc250 with a mag 9.5 I am pulling 500 gals a hr. That helps out alot.

Zany I think the white film comes from viniger dosing if I am not mistaken. I never ran into that with vodka

i all so use amino acid from brightwell and see great results from target feeding. and i keep up with water changes but theres always a small measurable amout of nitrates and it buggs the heck out of me cuz it ends up stimulating the production of diatoms. and doing obessive water changes with what little water that is in my tank would be over kill.
