are you running gfo in a reactor or any thing esle.
Granular Ferric Oxide.Gfo?
Granular Ferric Oxide.
I read that a GFO is not really needed and many considers it redundant. I'm not going to buy one. Actually here is the quote from
Vodka Dosing...Distilled!
A Powerful Method for the Reduction of
Nitrates and Phosphates within the Reef Aquaria
by Nathaniel A. Walton (Genetics) and Matt Bjornson (Stony_Corals)
"Essentially, by carbon source additions, the same net result is being achieved. It may even be counterproductive to run GFO while dosing an organic carbon source as both nitrate and phosphates need to be present for this to work properly. Therefore, it is not needed and not commonly recommended but some people continue to run phosphate reactors concurrently."
I'm not saying they are right or wrong, but who are these guys and why should we take their word for it? Seems like they are just regurgitating anecdotal experience from RC threads and the references at the end are just links to threads. They may very well have some actual expertise/ training that enables them to evaluate this stuff beyond the average hobbyist, but without any bio info I find it impossible to put too much stock into any husbandry recommendations.
Certainly not the only article on vodka dosing. And to be clear, I have no issue with anecdotal hobbyist accounts as useful and worthy of discussion. My issue is more with the publication not providing author credentials to aid in evaluating the credibility of what is being said. To me an article by Joe Blow carries far less weigh than one by an author with a track record or history or expertise--not that experts can't be wrong-- or that these guys in question aren't knowledgeable. It is just that I have little way of knowing one way or the other.
