ok so recently i switched from VHOs to MH and because of u had to get rid of my hood (the mh fixture doesn't fit.) when i had the hood there was a towel trown across the back of the tank, so my rigal tang could not see her reflection, losing the hood i tossed the towel. so my regal went back to her shenanigans of chasing her reflection. to solve the broblem i bought a back round, no my "dory" lol has moved on-yeay. but! now the yellow tang can see his reflection, and is doing "the boss man" song and dance in front of the glass, he's my was my first fish so his VERY territorial. should i be concerned cause he seems flustered at the sight of "another" will he eventually realize?

thanks!

Fish clearly see OUT of the tank at the surrounding room, not a mirror image of themselves when looking out of your tank.
They see you coming when you walk up with their food and can watch your TV if it is nearby (if they choose to...)

The ONLY way they will see a mirror image of themselves is if you hang a mirror outside the tank (some folks to this to keep fish happy).

YOU see a reflection of things in the tank when you are looking from the outside in due to the surfaces you are looking through (glass & water).

If you don't believe me - stick your head in the tank and take a look around :)

My clowns used to do the same thing, but they do it far less these days.

I think they lost interest after a while, realizing they were getting nowhere with their efforts.

If I look through my tank from one side, I can see out the other side, but see reflections on the far side as well. So they can see us, and themselves.

Probably depends on your tank's glass, and lighting.

No, they actually can't see themselves. In your description, you are looking through 2 surfaces, they are only looking through 1 - they can see out :)

ahhahaha i almost did stick my head in there! what i meant was that since putting up the blue background my tang can now see his reflection. also the room the tank is in is quite dark so its like looking out the window at night so they still see them selves a little bit, but the reflection on the back glass is more prominent.
