My blood shrimp is the most active animal in my tank and I'm wondering if this is unusual. It's almost always out, often hanging upside down but in clear view. With 5" antennas spread out in all directions it would be difficult for it to hide in my Solana but it never tries to. It spends a lot of time wandering around the tank, walking on the rock and on the gravel. During feedings it jumps around from rock to rock sometimes even coming up the the surface. It molts about every 3 weeks and is jumping around the next next. Was I just lucky with this guy?

I dont have a skunk but my small peppermint rarely cones out. Maybe when it grows a bit. My blood cleans my algae blenny and sometimes comes after my hand. So far I've been too jumpy to find out what it wants to do.

No worries... it probably just wants to pry your fingernails off.

;)

I hand feed my skunk krill and huge pellet food. Must be like crack to him, the way he jumps on my hand and starts pecking around!

untrue - bloods will often clean as well - not uncommon.

Also it's likely more active because the predator scale is real low (meaning, there aren't that many fish that threaten it)

FWIW

House

Jim -- I got the blood shrimp from you.
Yes, I have all wimpy fish and the shrimp is about the same size as the fish. My false percs are territorial about the corner where they sleep but that's it. The predator idea makes sense. Thanks. I have a nice harmonious community with all my fish and blood shrimp swimming all over the tank.

My Fire shrimps, I have 2, consistently hide in the rock work and only come out when I feed or once the lights go out. They also live on opposite sides of the tank, except once and a while I'll find them together, but this only last for a short time. My two Cleaner shrimps are very active and are always out.

Also, in a Solana, it's not a large tank. As for previous reefers, my fire shrimp come out for feeding and night time, where my cleaner shrimp is out all of the time.
