I have a pair of black & white percs. Noticed female at rear of tank this morning.
Great eater and alway in front of my tank. Male look's like he is protecting her.
When i fed them male came out to eat female didn't. Which is strange. She won't leave the rear of tank. Can she be sick? Or about to lay eggs? In the case that she is about to lay i am not prepared. I i'm thinking of putting her in a netted box would this be a good idea? Please help.

Oh yeah check for eggs already... first day the eggs should be bright orange.. Then they darken and turn black. when all the eyes have little eyes in them (white little spots) they will be ready to hatch about 21 days or so. mine lay eggs every 3 to 4 weeks never kept track of the cycle cause I dont have the time to raise them. But IMO they are getting ready if not already there to lay eggs. good luck raising them it takes a lot with those little guy!!

In a functioning clownfish pair, the male is always the smaller of the two. This being said, the clownfish toward the rear of the tank is actually female. The female usually protects the eggs while the male tends to them by aerating them and cleaning them.

generally, we freak out when our fish start acting "weird," but many seasoned hobbyists will tell you to relax, to keep watching her, to make sure the water parameters are okay, and not to stress her out in any undue way.

Also, if you are not ready to raise a clutch of eggs (if she is, indeed, getting ready to lay eggs), don't sweat it. The eggs will feed the rest of the tank this time around. If you are interested in raising clowns, then you have time to gather what you need to do that - but it's a huge undertaking. I know a few folks with mating clown pairs - when they do lay eggs, the rest of the tank benefits. Nature takes its course.

Best of luck!

I would think there will def be eggs involved as daisy said don't stress it if the other fish eat the egg/babies do your research and do it next time or the time after. You now or most likely now have a mated pair so it will be happening all the time.

on another note I have to give a lil shout out to JimmyRider aka nostradumbazz
BESTILL MY HEART..I spy 2 different species of clowns CO EXISTING!

I'm not just trying to correct you, but the black and white clownfish are A. Ocellaris, rather than A. Percula.
