I now this is a much talked about subject, however I was wondering what's a good site to order some sea creatures from...? How do the fish and inverts do when "Joe the UPS guy" gooses the box across the front lawn

I got something sent by USPS next day air, and the box required a signature. The box was well packed, and had only one casualty (a fuzzy chiton). The shipment was for snails and hermits, so not sure if that makes any difference, but I had a pretty good experience. Plus, the box was marked fragile.

Sometimes, it is not the kicking that will kill them...It is when you missed a delivery and they wont deliver it until the next day. Then you'll have to go to UPS and wait on line until the truck comes back.
For simple inverts like hermits and snails, I've been going to LFS and their prices are very competititve with the online shops. I've also ordered from Dr Macs and Fosters without any issues. Most of the online places offer live arrival guaranteed with restrictions (ie, accepting the delivery within the first attempt) but most will require you to pay for the extra 30-50 overnight shipping...

I have ordered for many different ones including ebay and mostly happy with results. Shipping can be costly. If you can get someone to share the shipping it helps or if you have a lot to order and can get free shipping. You usually have a better selection of your particular needs than you would at an LFS. Some inverts can be shipped priority mail but I wouldn't try it in this hot weather. In fact I wouldn't try even overnight in this weather.

I would just support your LFS's.. There are definitely some good shops around here anyway. I was talking to one of my favorite LFS store owners yesterday and he said his business is down about 50% (due to summer heat and general economy, I guess)..

It'd be a real shame for these companies to go out of business.

I doubt if you were to contact all the vendors on here alone that you couldn't find whatever you were looking for (and if necessary they can typically order you something)..

Not sure how the LFS's are in your area though.

I like to buy local too. Between our swaps and our vendors, why look else ware?

If your going to ship, mid summer may not be the best time of year. Try sept-nov.
