Well after reviewing my ConEd bills for the last couple months I am starting to REALLY see the logic in LED setups. For those of you out there that currently have LED fixtures could I get some advice - pros/cons on each. I currently have a 90g with a 6light T5 tech light - the tank is populated with happy SPS corals (in the top 12inches) and various softies and LPSs - Thanks in advance.

The other con is LEDs do not last long from what I have read I am seeing the longest expected lifetime to be about 5 years. and you can't just replace a bulb if it goes out. I think halide is still the best way to go although expensive and hot. T5's are really the best long term alternative if you have heat issues/do not want to buy a chiller and plan on saving a little on electric.

Thane mine crapped out as well the lights were blinking like a strobe light and the settings would not switch properly..sometimes would work when I unplugged it and waited a little but not all the time. I called them and they informed me that there was a problem with the ballasts they were using and are no longer using ballasts from that manufacturer they are shipping me the new improved version in 2 weeks I'm sure they will do the same for you. I would say just call them.

The big con is that its going to take you about 3+ years of saving on electric bills to counter the high prices of fixtures over 4' that are store bought.

The con is if you buy the 1,000.00 fixture. I got two fixtures for 500, total, and they work great. Since I sold my mh halides, that paid for one(250) and I have already made the diffierence back in savings on my electric bill in 3-4 months, no con. even if purchase a fixture for 1,000.00, you will get that back quickly when you consider the money you get for selling your old fixture. And the insane electricity rates here in Lower New York. Do the math. If your electricity bill is 300 and you cut it down to even 200, you are saving $1,200 a year. My bill is going from 219 to 99.

I have sps that is colored up on the sand in my tank which is 48"x24"x24". No problems with sps here.

Selling your old fixture doesn't really pay for your new fixture. It just gets the money back from what you already spent on your old fixture haha. And you never get full price back.
