I am considering a DIY project on my new BioCube 29 to turn one of the rear filtration compartments into an algae filter/mini refugium and am seeking suggestions regarding nano-sized LED waterproof lighting solutions. Would such a lighting solution provide enough light for macro algae or am I hamstrung into a more conventional solution (and related heat issues)?

When I had my 24g nano cube I used this http://saltwatercritters.com/inc/sdetail/4019 to grow my cheato in the rear compartment. Worked great 
I use this and it does a great job. You'll have to scrape the paint off the back of the cube though.
