angels in reef ??????

I was wondering is there is a good success rate with flame,majestic and potters angels in a reef tank ...had a flame and it jumped out my tank and I'm contemplating getting 1 or 2 of these angels my flame never picked at my corals ...what are your thoughts

Flame is hit or miss, Majestic is not reef safe and good luck keeping the Potters alive.

I have had two potters in my reef tank. the first lasted a year and a half and then jumped out (the back of my canopy was open space) About a year ago I got a second potters from Dom at Diamonds of the reef. Dom made sure it was eating frozen and was healthy before I could pick it up. The fish is doing great. My canopy is now fully enclosed just in case.

My flame was 2 yrs in my tank and made it out of a 2 in space in my canapy

I have tried 2 pairs of bellus angels. Both have destroyed Palys, acans, and SPS. I love these fish and it will hurt to see this pair go.

I have tried a Goldflake angel and it was a nightmare.

I do currently own a Bellus angel and she doesn't bother coral but she is a little bit of a bully when it comes to fish.(she might get the boot:shhh I have sps lps clams shrimp you name it she leaves it alone she just hates other fish!

I have heard a lemark if I am spellign correct are reef safe but angels are with caution

i have a flame and eibli angel and no problems yet they have been foraging since being placed in the tank (they've gained alot ot wight too, not that they where skinny but they where regular), i didnt know flames where jumpers tho my tank if fully open on the top so now im worried.

i just dont want to get a new flame and if he nipps my coral i wont be able to get him out of my tank

I have a bi color angel with some sorties and lps and seems to be doing fine not sure if he will nip sps or not though

My Flame and Elbi Angel are fine but I feed them alot..

I have a regal, flame and blueface for years. They are hits or misses for sure. The regal used to eat the zoas that I had. They have been OK with the SPS. The only LPS I have is a large hammer colony. No clams neither.

Whats the point of the risk?

I mean I absolutely love Puffers & the Blue Spotted Filefish.. but they are not considered reef friendly.

If you're going to spend $10 or $100 or $1000 or even more on coral... whats the point in just having the possibility that any coral could be killed? (Outside the realm of bad tank parameters)

Looking at it from my "poor mans" point of view..

Say you just buy this cheap frag for $10. Which is pretty much what I assume most people consider some type of a low end coral.. normally some bland colored zoa that doesn't have some extravagant name.

Over the course of 2 weeks whichever Angel you do end up putting in your tank just destroys it..

Thats the equivalent of $10 being thrown in the garbage. Thats just the way I see it.

If I had the finances I'd set up a nice FOWLR & a separate reef tank.. depending on just how much you are really into keeping aquariums.

Besides there are TONS of other beautiful, colorful, and captivating fish that will do just fine in a reef tank.
