I've come to the conclusion that I need a skimmer on my JBJ 28...I'll probably end up going with the JBJ skimmer built for the cube but was wondering if anyone would recommend a HOB protein skimmer that may be a little better.

Any suggestions???

I have the Aqua C Remora Pro and Tunze 9002. Both are excellent skimmers and have different strengths and weaknesses.

The Aqua C Remora is plug and play. It hangs on back of tank and all you do, is adjust the collection cup height. Some people love it and others think it does not pull enough. I think it does a great job. However, I found, that using it with the highest recommended powered pump the better.

The Tunze 9002 is highly recommended for Nano tanks, based on Nano-Reef.com forums. I also have this skimmer on my Solana tank. I can tell you, that it takes a bit to "dial it in". On some tanks, you need to buy a modified collection cup that is rectangular rather than round.

I found this unit does a great job, but does have to be adjusted every once in a while. A tidbit that works much better for me, is to set the unit about 1 inch higher than the recommended height above the water line.

Widdy, the recommended URL for review was very good.

Good luck,

I just bought a Rio nano skimmer, it's nice for $30.00. Works / looks good.

I ordered an eshopps psk-75 for my JBJ 28g but it is on backorder right now. It is a hang on. The tightening bolt did not fit well but I will just stich a block in there or something. I tried it out on the back of a 28g at the store and it fit well there. It was nice cause the pump is part of the skimmer and does not need to fit in the tight compartment.

I have the Rio on a 24 gallon aquapod. Does a good job but does take time till you adjust it right and instructions are not that helpful. Just play around till it is working well. You should see foam starting to move up the tube within a minute and then you probably have it set right. This is not a great skimmer but on these small tanks it is debateable if you even need one. So I don't think you have to be so particular as you would in a bigger system.
