I have a JBJ 28g LED. I use both stock pumps with a wave maker and a koralia 3... Some of my corals seem to be doing real well. My Duncans, Dendros and Zoas all thrive. While all my acans and sps just slowly perish... Im afraid if I change the flow then the stuff that is doing well might not make it...

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Water parameters are good. I do 5 gallon water changes every week and add calcium and alk when needed... I use tropic marin salt which I was told helps with a bunch of additives that corals need... Someone told me that sps need a skimmer to thrive so I guess thats why I never had luck with them.... But I just dont get why I cant get an acan to stay alive... I tried to shield them for the flow as much as possible but it doesnt seem to help.

How is your parameters? As far as flow, I am interested to see the answers...
+2,on the parameters . Also I'm puzzled:scratch: how you can keep the low light corals and are trying to place higher light corals:smash: (that's not going to work). About the Acans, keep them all the way down when you first get them. Then adjust slowly (weekly) to preffered location. They don't mind nutrien rich water as long as you keep your Cal.+Alk a little higher than natural sea water they should be fine. In addition, nitrates will also need to be maintained Under 20ppm and phosphates under 0.03 (that should work for the lower light corals as they like a little phos in the water). For any further info, just pm. Goodn luck.

i have the same tank jbj 28 led.. i have sps-clams and acans thriving with no problem.. i have the two stock pumps plus my mp10 running on 50%.. dont think the flow is the issue.. no skimmer running on mine.. just weekly water changes with esv salt.. something else must be your problem

Based on the above comment it sounds as if you're running the system without a skimmer. Yes, it can be done.....however, a skimmer will help your system in more ways than removing DOC's. It also helps to oxygenate your water. If I were you I would start saving my money for a skimmer before changing powerheads.

+1 on the skimmer....
You'll do well without the MPXX. It would be nice to have one :) I definitely would use the money for an efficient skimmer first and avoid going cheap on that piece of equipment.
The Acans I have enjoy a lower flow (unlike SPS). Also, i placed mine on a lower light area and I feed them occasionally. You should definitely keep an eye on Alk and Cal since they are my culprits of them not expanding at first... But without a skimmer, that leaves a few questions about your water parameters since you have no other means of exporting the excess nutrients (ie macro algaes?)

I have a tunze 9002 sitting in its box brand new for 6 months.... I am afraid to change anything in the back chamber since everything else is doing well. I have chemipure, cheato, and a poly pad in there so if take that stuff out im afraid it will throw everything out of wack....

Is a skimmer that much better than the stuff I have listed and 5 gallon weekly changes??
