hi every one I know this is a stupid question but. I have see some of my friend runing they reef without carbon and the water is clean the corals get nice colors and some of the sps are super nice.

I want to know is how many people out there is runing your reef tank without carbon. does runing carbon is better colors for sps?

I don't use carbon... just some poly filtler cotton between my baffle, changed out weekly. No relation for coral growth or color. FYI some can leach po4 back into the water after time if not changed out.

I also use it. I have a mixed reef set-up and the leathers release a toxin that depletes the growth of sps coral. I wouldn't run it if it wasn't for that. I like a system that is able to run as natural as possible (whatever that means), lol.

I agree on the Carbon leeching Po4's.If you're going to use one,use a good one like Rowacarbon.Has the lowest PO4 out there.Stopped using Chemipure Elite.Went with Rwoaphos.A little more expensive but well worth it for Phosphate control.

maybe i am just a cheap SOB but i have never found a big difference between any of the brands of carbon or gfo. i also am not sure i really believe the companies that say that their carbon doesnt leach stuff back into the water. just use whatever is cheap and easily available, and change it regularly.
