Hey everyone, kind of new to the hobby, and looking for some input and direction. Im currently starting my first tank, its a 30 gallon FOWLR. I figured i would start there and build up. I cant decide on a filter type, should i get a canister style or a mechanical. If i go with the mechanical would the marineland emperor 400 be to big? The other problem is lighting, I want a good light set up, at an afforadable price. Also if there are any preferred online retailers that everyone uses, that would be cool to.

I have been reading up a little, so im not going in completly blind. :)

Thanks in advance, Spencer

welcome to the hobby, if you have room in your stand go with a sump, it will hide most of your equipment and increase your water volume, as far sa equipment their is a lot of people selling goods here all the time, the only problem would be shipping to you. If you are not doing corals you could basicly go with any light.
