I hate to post twice in two days but alas I have another questions.

I got a call that my power on the outlet with my aquarium went out. I raced home to the smell of burning and everything turned off as the breaker tripped. Upon closer inspection I found that one of my two 250 W heaters seemed to have shorted out in the sump and actually broke the glass.

When I pulled it out the insides were coming out. I was able to retrieve the broken glass from my sump (at least all I could see). Any idea whats inside the heater (that appears to be black). Is this harmful to 1) me or 2) my aquarium?

Anyone ever had a heater going out with such a bang before?

I agree, get titanium.

I was lucky enough to be home when I had a glass heater explode in my sump. At that time it was on my 125g tank. It cracked the sump and began to dump about 40g of water into my carpet. I will never use glass again.
