Hey! It is up to you. Basically you can leave it on the disc or take it apart and mount it on rocks. Some frags I leave it on the disc and some I dismount it and remount using epoxy on the rocks...

o ok thanks =). i think ill leave it on =). does leaving it on effect the growth rate? does it only grow or get as large as the disk it is on?

Something like a torch and most LPS I will take off of the disc because I personally want a natural look in my tank and think discs/plugs are ugly, but with zoas and most SPS I'll leave them on and glue the mount onto the rock because those corals grow in mats or encrust. I will usually cut as much of the disc or plug away that I can (without damaging the coral) and IC gel or epoxy it onto the live rock.

You don't even listen to yourself. Why should anyone help you? You don't listen, you say you're going to do things right and then do the opposite. Seriously dude... what is your issue? Are you posting to mess with people or are you just completely ignoring everything everyone tells you?

.... 5 months before adding a coral? That's a long wait! Maybe he meant 5 weeks? :splitspin

No. A cycle usually takes 6 or 8 weeks- and thats just to complete the nitrogen cycle and to get the bacteria levels and pods established to sustain basic life. Then you need to add fish 1 at a time then give it a 2-4 week period depending on your filtration to catch back up to the bioload before adding anymore.

THE KEY TO THIS HOBBY IS PATIENCE (followed closely by research)

In all honesty if he doesnt know what a frag plug-(frag mounting or little white disc) maybe he should read or ask BEFORE purchasing whats mounted to the little white things.

Not to mention he should have started with softies, mushrooms and zoas etc. and once he was successful with that then move on to LPS, then EVENTUALLY some SPS.

Here ya go, theres this search engine thing but Im not sure if hes heard of it heres a little help:

Nano just so ya know the links meant in a friendly way lol no harm intended

You didn't even wait five weeks.

beerfish. i dont mean to get on anyone's nerve. i dont do it on purpose. i do listen, that is way so far my tank is doing fine. my tank is 3 months in already and i got the torch 9 days ago around.. so i did wait 5 weeks. also i did start with softies and my first corals were mushroom and zoos and a leather. i recently just started with the torch and it seems to be doing fine. also my candy canes are getting huge.

Instead of bashing him let's answer the thread question shall we?

Like most people, I don't like the look of the plug. It's all preference.
If you have rocks with little nooks that you can stick the torch coral's base into, then you could do that.

The white disk you are talking about is a frag plug. It's pretty much what all frags of corals are glued onto. If you do get frag plugs, SAVE THEM! reuse them for later!

MR is like free consulting, easy access to experts or at least persons who've been there and done that. Sure you could do other research and sift through hundreds or maybe even thousands of pages of material, but compare that to asking a "silly" question and getting not only specific answers but other persons' experiences along the way. On the other hand, you should consider that you could do the research so you understand why a method may or may not work. If you understand why something works or doesn't work then you'll be way ahead of the game.
