Feeding fish during vacation?

Hi All,

I just want to know how to feed the fish when we go for long vacation, like 2 - 3 weeks. Is it good idea to buy the food feeder and setup the timmer.

Yes it is. A even better thing would to have someone come over every day or so and feed them, also check on the tank too as things can and do happen.

AND when you do, show them 1/3 the amount of food you actually want them to feed. Trust me, unless they are experienced themselves they will overfeed regardless of what you say to them .

2 years ago I went away (1 week) I set up 7 cups, each w/ the right amount of food (rinsed) put 'em in the freezer and left directions - neighbor still messed it up. Last year I hired a local LFS guy to come by once a day, even then there were some shortfalls (he forgot to come every day - at least he was honest) but nothing dramatic.

I set up a web cam by my tank so if my son who was coming by to feed and check on things had a problem I could see what was happening and give him advice from my android phone.

One day there was a problem with the skimmer and using the web cam made it a lot easier to give instructions on how to fix.
