I was using RC and had difficulties keeping the proper levels I switched to Esv and found it o be a much better mix (haven't had to dose anything since I started using it), the part I really like about it is the fact you have to mix the individual components which eliminates the problems of settling with other brands and getting inconsistent batches and it can be mixed in a 1/2 hour then used. If you don't like measuring the individual components then ESV may not be for you. On another note, I found RC was the cause of my non-stop (1 1/2 years) cyano problem (Could have been a bad batch) since the switch I no longer have any cyano. just my .02

I've got to agree with the ESV Salt. We've had such great success with it.

Russ

russ is always correct! by far within the past 6 years of reefing, this is hands down the best switch ive ever done. ESV salt is the best salt ever. period.

i use to use instant ocean, then switched to reef crystals, and now esv. instant ocean is like jersey shore salt and esv is like great barrier reef!

:chefico: I'll toast to that one! Great analogy.

Oh, and please don't ever let my wife here you say
russ is always correct!

I'd be a dead man :( Besides, 'always' is a very committal word :shhh: It just can't (and isn't) true  But thanks for the kindness.

I'm using ESV and am having difficulty getting the perfect mix because I don't know the exact amount of RO in my container. I estimated it at 30 gallons but my tank parameters are off with them being.

PH 8.2
Alk 10
Calcium 500
Mag 1500
Sg 1.023

Is there a way to bring up the sg without the liquid components?

What I do and I got it from russ is put less water then what you need maybe about 5 gal or so mix your components then test salinity it's gonna be high so then I add one gallon at a time let sit for a min or two then test again and so on until I get what I want... I don't think there is a way to just being up salinity without putting everything else out of wack that I know of

I use ESV, think I might have been the first on here to switch over or one of the first. Great salt and I wouldn't switch back, I was using Seachem Reef before this. But IO and RC are both the same salt both made by IO as well as the Seachem.

It may take a little time, maybe you can put one gallon at a time in your container and mark it off in 2 or three gallon increments with a sharpie. I did this and it worked out for me.

lionfish, i would try H2Ocean honestly, yes more money. but you get what you pay for
i tried several salts and this one by far is the best i have ever used. i cut down on dosing by 5ml's on cal and alk and no longer need to dose mag. plus its scoop mix done! no measuring guessing and hoping its right. my tanks and corals are the proof i havent had this kind of color since i used seachem reef salt. just my 2 cents
