I have been getting a film on the surface of the water in my tank lately. i don't understand where its coming from. i started dosing vodka about 1.5 months ago, could that be the reason?

the tank is 75g with the overflow offset to one side of the tank but not in the corner, the film is forming on the opposite side of the overflow. for flow i have a tunze 6100(3,000gph) and a maxijet mod (1200gph) plus about 700gph from the return pump, so i doubt its a lack of flow.

anyone have any suggestions?

A few possibilities.
#1 - Are you dosing the vodka straight into the tank or into the sump?
#2 - Probably need more flow on the surface.
#3 - Is the flow into the overflow blocked...maybe adjust the overflow or water level.

+1 on #'s 2 & 3
Do you have a high about of surface agitation? It helps improve this situation.
Check for crud accumulating around your overflow. Buy a new toothbrush and use it to scrub around the teeth to clear any blockage.

Film tends to form when the 2 things above are overlooked. Feeding pellet &/or flake food tend to add to this issue. If you are using frozen food, be sure to rinse it before adding it to the tank. :)

I could add more surface agitation but wouldn't this just mask the problem and it would still be in my water?
the overflow teeth are clear. i have been turning of my pumps for like 10 minutes a couple times a day to allow the film to get into the overflow and hopefully get caught in the skimmer or filter sock.

also the feeding pellet/flake food will cause this is very interesting, because i purchased new life spectrum pellets recently and have been feeding mostly that
