Painting the back of a tank

I used krylon spray paint which was fast and looks good. If you go this route a good hint to remember is to spray from about 3-5 inches away and go over in layers to make sure the paint dont drool.

I used valspar paint from Lowes put 5 coats and the 2 coats of clear enamel and it looks like i bought the tank that way. The clear is a definate must. It protects the finish.

If you can do it outside or in a garage (actually it's too cold to do it outside
) use spray paint like Krylon, if not I always use HD matte finish oil paint applied with a foam roller.

I lay my tank flat to prevent paint from running downward. 2 coats of krylon blue after the blue dries and a coat of black on top of the blue . Check out my tank at youtube (search "teeratorn" )
I used Krylon fusion, this works great on glass if you have the room to spray paint the tank. If you don't then use Rustoleum Painter's touch with a small roller. here's a pic of the painters touch. with both paints several coats will work best.
I always use Rustoleum with those skinny (frankfutter looking) pink rollers on the long rod. No fuss, no muss, no mess. Couple of coats, and I'm done. Never had the need for clear coats or anything else.

As mentioned above, you always want to apply several thin coats to get the desired effect. Don't try to speed up the process and cover up the glass in one coat because it won't look nice.

As you will be looking at it from the front through the glass they will all look glossy. Unless your tank back is visible. If that's the case I am partial to semi-gloss finishes. Krylon semi being one of the nicest rattle can finishes IMO.
i think i bought this for like $7 and still have 3/4 left haha, applied about 2.5 coats
This is the stuff I used, with a skinny roller you can apply without any problems.
