Hello,
Santa gave me a new set of lights I can use to have LPS corals and other cool stuff. Which means that my Dual Lamp light has been made redundant.
Below you will find a bunch on info that I put together for the reader about what this product and what the replacement bulbs are.
Here is my user review of it.
Pro: Inexpensive, lightweight, easy to use, uses very little energy/electricity, good entry level system (getting exposure to some coral categories), easy to maintain - in others words a decent basic start up light that fits most 55gallon and up tanks.
Con: The strength of the light can't do hard corals (I did have a couple but they had to be located way up to the top of the tank). Also it doesn't have the LED shimmer effect stuff you see lately, or any fancy programmable time settings (I will provide you the timer outlet I used to create a "cycle" of light).
I've had this since I started the hobby - September 2010. I didn't finish cycling my water until January so it's only been in "full use" for about 9 months when I first got a coral back in March. Up until yesterday this lamp system was keeping my soft and a hard (frogspawn) corals very happy. My honest assessment is that these bulbs have some life left in them but may be up for a bulb replacement this winter. I've located information for you about this bulbs further below - you can see that the bulbs are easy to purchase and a full set will set you back about $35 - $40 after this the lights will go about 12 - 15 months before need for another replacement. (So purchase of this and a replacement set will keep you going for almost two years)
Other than having to clean the salt residue, and making a bulb replacement in the somewhat near future - it's in as good of condition as they day I purchased it.
I recommend this to any aquarium hobbyist who has a fish tank and wants to dabble in starting up some reef features but is hesitant about making a several hundred dollar plunge into a reef lighting system (as I was a year ago). I can also recommend this to any hobbyist who is confident that they will work mostly in the soft coral (lower light) range of the hobby. Lastly I can recommend this to anyone who has a fish only tank but just wants a cheap way to get the color of the fish in the tank to "pop" a bit more. I CAN NOT recommend this to anyone who wants a full variety of corals in their tank in the near future. This light will only frustrate you as some corals can simply not be supported by this system.
Thank you for reading my post. Make me your best offer if interested (especially if you are new to the hobby)
