I have sworn never to buy another fish from a NY pet store as i just cant deal with the high mortality rate. So if anyone out there has any smallish and non aggressive fish that need a new home I have two very empty tanks that are in need of some new inhabitants. Can swap for kenya tree frags or good ole cash
Also looking for small hermit crabs and shrimp
cheers, Aaron

I buy fish from all over the NYC area, and some of the places aren't the best, but rarely do I have a problem with fish dying. Now I check out the fish very careful before buying and do quarantine before placing them in my tank. If your haven't problems with fish dying all the time then I think you need to look at your system as this just shouldn't be happening all the time reguardless where your getting your fish from.

Hey Michael, I would agree with you, however all the fish i have ever got from fellow reefers and fish club auctions have always survived with no problems. But occasionally i am in petco (Union square) and i see something and i get weak, despite checking them carefully in the store and quarantining them they all seem to develope a horrific case of Ich or velvet that consumes them within a day or two. I have even given them freshwater dips and added copper to the Qtank straight away but it seems to make little difference.

I wouldn't buy anything from the Petco in Union Square unless it came from the 2 reef tanks by the stairs. In all the other tanks the fish seem to either have ich or even worst some kind of secondary infection which is harder to cure than ich.

Doesn't it always seem those impluses buy never work out.

If you want a yellow tang I have one. He was in a major battle with an angel and suffered fin damage. I'm not sure if it will grow back, but otherwise hes in excellent shape and also FREE.

Thanks steve, unfortunately i already have a yellow tang in my large tank and the small tank is a little too small for a tang I think.
Michael, the sixline was from the reef tank, unfortunately it was just as pox ridden.

I had the same experience with a certain place (won't flame anybody)in Queens. Two seperate occasions, an algae bleeny and a rock beauty. 3 days in the tank and ick all over them. My two buddies also had an ick breakout from this place.
