Newbie question. Any reason to add Chaeto without a sump or fuge? I have 2 rimmed tanks on canister filters. I see everyone talking about chaeto, but next to putting it in like a hamster ball, I havent seen folks run it without a fuge.

Cheato is mostly used to remove excessive nutrients and lower Nitrate and Phosphate. I run my tank without refugium for a long time until I want to get my phosphate down below 0.1. I wouldn’t worry about it for softies and LPS dominant tank. If you really looking to set up refugium for aio tank, try HOB one.
