Hmmm... I'm very tempted; I could probably get rid of my Fluval if I got this thing. How exactly do these things work as HOB? Don't they need lighting independent of the tank?
Well you hang it on the back of the tank, the pump takes water from the tank, puts it into the fuge, and then it comes out at the other end.
They do need an extra light. What I did was go to HD buy a $3 fixture and one of those energy saver bulbs for $8 and that was my fuge light. It clamps on and makes lighting it up easy. I still have it and could throw it in for $5.
Who used the fuge first?? Kris gave me some chaeto in a bag and during transit the water leaked from the bag and got all over the light. I assume it's not really water-proof...? Or should be ok once dried out? This being salt-water and all. And how essential is around-the-clock light for it anyway?
For a while after I put the fuge on I was all worried about my Clowns who made their home behind the out- and in-take tubes of the Fluval, which I removed. They wobbled around for a while, but have moved in behind the pump of the fuge now. I was sort of hoping they'd go to the other side of the tank where the anemone is! But they didn't. Grr...
