As the title says. I have always had a passion for planted freshwater tanks but salt was has been my main passion for over a decade.
With refugiums becoming popular now days i have seen some really spectacular display refugiums.
I have an extra 20L tank that I think would be perfect for...
Over the last 5 months I have had prolems with bacterial blooms. I finally determined that this was due to ultra low nutrient levels.
My nitrate and phosphate were both 0 for months.
SPS and LPS were surviving but definitely not thriving. I had large zoa colonies that all but melted away...
I have read mixed things about the Phosphate test from Hanna.
I have recently started to switch over from Red Sea tests to Hanna but want some MR members opinions about the phosphate test.
Does anyone have first hand experience with this test?
Is it better/easier than Red Sea or Salifert?
looking for birdsnest frag or colony to purchase.
I am located in Union County but willing to travel anywhere in NJ, Staten Island and western Brooklyn
I have been looking through posts and think I have a Dino issue in my tank.
My phosphate and nitrate are both 0. This has always been my goal but I guess its too low.
Can anyone confirm that this light brown slimy stuff on my rocks is Dino?
Also how do I get rid of them?
I noticed today that the larger of my two clowns had a few black spots on its body.
In the pic you can see one above the fin and one below. There is a third spot on the other side. (sorry for the iPhone pic)
I know ich is white but I have never seen black or even heard of it before.
Can...
Looking to stock my 10g nano with some easy softies.
Kenya tree and Toadstoon would be awesome. Even willing to get some Xenia.
Willing to travel to nyc. Preferably in NJ though
Looking to upgrade my flow in the tank.
I have a 58gal display. 36x18x20
Right now I have 3 Hydor powerbeads that work fine but a lot of dead spots.
Thinking of making the plunge and spending money on one mp10(or mp40 if needed) or these gyre powerheads.
I have no first hand knowledge of...
My tank is finally cycled and I need to get lights.
I am between 2 AI Prime HD or one 300W Viparspectra.
I have a 36x18x20 tank. The black box is 31.5 x 8.5 x 2.4 and one would be sufficient for the tank.
I have had success with black boxes in the past but really wanted this tank to be my...
It has been a few years since I've cycled a new tank so maybe I'm just being impatient but hoping you guys could help calm my nerves..
I added Dr Tims One and only bacteria to my tank and dosed ammonia to 2ppm last friday. I have been checking the ammonia levels every day and there still is...
Setting up a 57 display with about 70 gal total volume. I have always done external pumps in the past but am leaning towards internal this time as I do not want to drill my sump.
These are the pumps I have narrowed it dow to:
Sicce 2.0
Sicce 3.0
Eheim 1250
Jebao DCP-3500
Jebao DCP-4000

I thought the APEX was the best (and apparently only) controller out there but after reading reviews on BRS I'm a little skeptical.
I used to have a Reefkeeper lite and while it was nothing fancy I loved it.
Before I dropped $500-$800 I thought I'd see what MR thought.
I know some people like to put a yoga mat or something between the tank and stand, especially with rimless tanks.
I have never done this but also have never had a rimless tank before.
Opinions?
After I graduated from college in 2014 I broke down my 29gal mixed reef. I have only kept a 5gal SPEC with some softies and no fish since (I maybe do a water change a few times a year).
I just bought a house and that means that I have the space to start up a tank again!!
I got a Deep blue...
Hello,
I have a desiccated seahorse carcass that i preserved from an old seahorse tank a few years ago. My intention was always to pin and frame it (like people do with insects, etc.). This was my favorite little girl. Anyone whos had seahorses knows how personable they are.
I was...
I am a college student and the effort to keep my mixed reef (sps, lps, softies & fish) up to the level i like is growing tiresome.
I have a nice 20 long that i have been thinking of moving things into and keeping it as an anemone/clown tank.
I have a rbt in my tank now.
I know anemones...
