i got several sps last thursday. they came from 250w lighting and since i have 400w i placed them @ the bottom of the tank. is it ok to start positioning them where i want them or should i have done this from the beginning?

More people concern themselves with dripping the coral to acclimate them to the water, when the light acclimation tends to kill more out. I'd do it slow, like over a week and then move them up from the bottom to midway and then 3 days and then up to the top if that is where you want. Slow and easy, what's the rush. My $.02.

I'm with Joe on this one... take it slow. Keep them on the bottom for 5 to 7 days and bring them up a few inches at a time until it is where you want it. PITA, but patience will go a long way.

thanks. mine have been @ the bottom for over a week. i think i will start moving them towards the middle. is there a concern for giving sps too much light? i heard such a thing is not possible, you can never have too much light for sps. i'll keep the digitata @ the bottom since it does well w/ less light.

They don't have eyelids which is where the damage comes in. While it is true to a degree that you can't give them to much light you can shock them to death by ramping up too quickly. You could also place them where you'd like them but put several mesh screens inbetween your lights and tank. Every three or four days remove one of the screens. This way you slowly acclimate them to their new home.
