Brand new piece... Red Dragon Acropora from Diver's Den. Had some white on the tips when I got it Friday, I thought it was growth, guess not. Now it looks like the red has essentially sloshed off one whole branch of the coral exposing the bright white skeleton and has started receding on the other big branch. Blah

I've already contacted Live Aquaria. They basically said keep an eye on it a few more days and/or till the warranty period is near, and keep them up to date. Freaking $$$$$$$$ as all heck piece, hopefully they refund it fully, which I assume they will a LA is a good outfit.

Any magic tricks to stopping RTN or bringing this thing back to life? Parameters are all in the pocket... Alk was a little low the other day, but not horrible so (7.7-ish, 400 CA, 1280 Mag) I've since done a water change...

pH is 8.2 The 7.7 is the Alkalinity, which is lower than I'd like it to be. I generally aim for around 9. A water change fixed it...I have to stop being a slacker and get my dosing back on a regular schedule in between changes. Last week was a bad week for me sleep wise. I ought to get a freaking controller. Robots to control things so I don't have to think, FTW (hello SkyNET)

Specific Gravity is 1.025, calibrated, and I have an ATO. Temp is around 79, with minimal fluctuation, i think (again, need controller and logging) When summer first started I was spiking to 82, but I've since figured out where to stick a fan. That was weeks ago though, long before the Red Dragon arrived the other day.

Speaking of, I dipped the Red Dragon (and the ORA Purple Nana, at the same time) in Revive, with an air stone. Did a float temperature acclimation and a quick drip first, then transferred it to the dip bucket for about 7 minutes, then into a rinser, then into the tank. (this is all with water from my new water dingy, which matches, for the most part - less fish poop and such - my DT)

I asked LA if there would be any merit to moving it up off the sand bed and they said it's worth a try. I suppose shipping it in the dark for 24 hours could have triggered the RTN. I'll move it up a little tonight under my night lights and continue to see how it responds. This morning it looked the same...not worse, which is good, but not exactly better either.

The annoying part is that it's a rare coral, as far as i can tell, so even if they refund me, which i assume they will do, i have to either ninja a new one from DD or just...not get one. I'm not really inclined to play DD roulette this week not knowing for sure if my current piece is kaput yet... that's a lot of $ to have dangling in the wind. Plus there's no telling for sure that there will be any available after even today. BAH!

I moved it up last night, we'll see...

What's with all the RTN threads....there's at least 3 going right now....
Dude i said the same thing on another thread. I had some nice pieces that I bought, and up until my problem started they were growing nicely, then one day they just started dying. There was a recall of kent carbon because it was wiping out tanks, so i subscribed to all the threads to see if there is somekind of connection between all of this. Maybe a product that we are using and we r unaware. so far it seems it's alk swings

Weird. Well I use BRS ROX Carbon and GFO, so it's not that in my case. Reef Crystals for salt...

Actually, I'm not convinced it's anything in my tank...it looks like it's just that new frag (knocks on fake wood desk) Of course after reading all these RTN threads now I'm checking all my SPS every few hour because i'm fraking paranoid ... I counted up last night. I have 13 SPS's, half a dozen LPS and 8 - 10 different kinds of zoa or paly plus some shrooms and a colt.

I hope your RTN ceases Paol, that sucks. A lot.

yeah you probably got a frag that was already on it's way out. I never ordered from LA. How is their costumer service? Are they honoring the sale? Refund the frag?

live aquaria's customer service is excellent. they will credit or refund you (less shipping) if your purchase died within the guarantee period....from 14 to 30 days. no pictures no returning the dead animal. they even apologize for the animal dying on you. i would not purchase any acro online unless it's from live aquaria.

Shipping, Dipping, and a quick alk swing from 7.7 to 9 sounds like it could be enough stress to put a delicate acro over the edge.

Yeah LA's customer service has a sterling reputation. I have no doubt they will honor the guarantee. They basically told me keep a very close eye on it and talk to us again in a few days. We've had further conversations since, via email, and they've been helpful. I'll probably email them again tomorrow or Friday (which would make it a week) and basically confirm that it's dead (which i'm 99% sure it is...i mean it looks like poop...though it hasn't gotten WORSE, for whatever that's worth) and hope they refund me then. If they want to wait till 14 days, or 30, that's not the end of the world either, I trust them.

2/3rds of my tank came from LA/Diver's Den including all but 2 of my fish, most of my inverts, more than half my corals, and some live rock. I kinda like them, a lot, and don't mind the shipping rates because the stuff you get is good.

It's good that they refund, but shipping and handling was probably close to $40 which you kind of lose it. We might need to organize a group buy with them....lol

Well its defiantly something cause like you said rtn and stn has been popping up all over the place. In my tank which has been running 3 years plus acros that I have had from frag that have been in my tank for 2 or more years started to crap out on me.. I ripped my tank apart to try to figure out what the cause was and try to save anything that I could and give what didnt start to rtn to friends that tanks were doing fine. I just changed a few things and just started all over again. And still having new frags rtn only after a day or 2 in my tank and even after a couple of weeks in the tank....
Im ready to hang a for sale sign on it!!! That how pissed I am...

If you figure it out or come up with any ideas do let me know...
