I've been keeping mostly softies in the past with some LPS and now I'm starting my tank from scratch again, I thought I'd try my hand at keeping a fully mixed reef to include some SPS.

My tank finished its cycle just over a month ago and I have some clean up crew, a few zoa's and shrooms and a hammer in there at present.

I've got myself a GHL controlled 4 pump doser and have slowly raised my Calk (now at 470), Alk (9) and Mag (1400) over the past 2 weeks. My PH is still hovering around the 8.0 mark (Hopefully this will increase as I ramp up my lighting schedule. I'm only running AI Sol Blues at 50% max at present.) I'm also dosing 3.5ml of Hydrogen Peroxide daily. All hair algae has disappeared from my tank after the cycle.

My first question is with regards to monti's. Do they naturally grow like this or does this require a few frags placed in such a what that when they grow out they form this type of shape?

Montis have really random growing patterns. Like Monti caps for example, some will grow in a bowl formation and some will just encrust the rock or just grow into irregular patterns. You should start off with montis because they are quite easy to keep and fast growers. Then you should try some birdsnests, and eventually acros.
