All depends on your personal preference.. many electronic ballasts will fire up radiums with effeciency, but are bluer ...IMO and many others they just look better fired up with a M80 HQI magnetic style ballast..they are that nice crisp white with a hint of blue that Rich wrote about...Im currently using old school magnetic M80 PFOs with T5 actinic supplements, but I just got a couple of new Hamilton magnetic M80 HQIs.

14K's grow corals as that's what sanjay joshi uses. 20k's are more for asthetices and color. I ran both ( not at the same time) with super blue T5 actinics and both are nice but the 14K are brighter and better growers.

Ushio 14k are the least blue 14k and were always my favorite lamp. I ran the 250w with reefbrite supplements for years. Sanjay was a committed 400w Ushio guy. The Radium run on the proper ballast as described above is also a very nice lamp and probably a little more in line with todays bluer aesthetic. Both are excellent choices and grow coral extremely well.
