Hey all, I've been around for a while, but I've never posted on reefs.org. I thought I'd share a couple pics of my tank and say hello. :) Most of you may know me from RC anyways..

OMG - beautiful tank O_D. Not having met you on RC, can you tell me a bit more about your tank? Size, lighting, hardware, dosing, yada-yada?

Cool.

Is that legal in Canada? They seem to be cracking down up there these days.

A friend of mine in Canada had his order of protein powder seized at Customs because it was considered "contraband."

Thanks for the comments! There are actually quite a few of us reefers in canada. Expecially over here on the west coast. Prices are not bad on most stuff either. There are some people in Vancouver that have some nice frag opperations too. You can buy good sized frags for $15 CAN. I have yet to have seen a bali slimer here yet! But on a good note, the red bugs haven't made their way over the border either. :P

Here's my system info:

Tank: standard 50g (3'x18"x18")
Sump: 30g, auto top off (mixed with kalk), grow out vat lit by 2 28w pcs.
Lighting: 1 400w radium run on a regular pfo ballast (for now). 3 NO actinics run on a WH7.
Current: 4x various maxijets on wavebar
Return Pump: Mag 5 (I might go a bit bigger down the road)
Filtration: 40-50 lbs of various LR, 3-4" DSB, Red sea Berlin skimmer on Mag 7.
Cooling: 5.5" AC fan, cold basement.

This system was recently transfered about 2 months ago from a 33 gallon that had been up for 18 months. I have a DIY calcium reactor that I just need to buy a fitting for and it will be running. I'll take some equipment pics a little later..

Wow, I sure would have guessed bigger than 50g!

I had the same reaction. My first thought was that it was a big tank, and my second thought was "wow - I wonder how big that outlet pipe is"... LOL-:D

O_D - very nice tank!! :)

Heheh I get that a lot and I don't know what to think of it..

I would have gone bigger, but I was already doubling my water content going from a sumpless 33 to a 50 with a big sump. Next tank will probably be a 120. Won't be for a while though.. The nice thing about the 3 foot tank is that with a good reflector, you can get away with one bulb. I feel that the radium spreads the length of the tank nicely.

I forgot to mention fish. I have 2 percs, a 6 line wrasse and a cylon dottyback. I like to keep the fishload low. I would never add a tang to a tank this size. I recently had an episode with a mantis which had been taking out many of my inverts. I did catch him though!

Additives etc: about 15 mls of kent part a/b a day and a 5 gallon water change every 3 weeks..

very beutiful tank. Its funny how deceiving pictures can be in reference to size-especially when they do not include full tank shots from floor to top of canopy with references such as a chair nearby. You would swear some close up shots of nanos less than 5 gallons came from a 300 gallon.
Can you post full tank shots with equipment-its always nice to see how the sucessors are doing things! Or is it suceeders?

Did you receive your corals as frags or mother colonies?

Just curious, how much growth do you attribute to the 400W Mh?

Great looking set-up!
