Some of you may have been following my recent tank crash (thanks for the sympathy, btw) so I thought I might share some photos. Please pardon the coraline on the front glass. You can read the whole thread here: What happens when you let a 15yr old kid take care of your tank

Oh Ernie, I've already had a good cry (somethin' else), I am so sorry. The last time I cried over "fish" was when we had a heatwave over a Labor Day weekend (120F during the day and 90F at night) and I lost every koi in my pond. I even had a BLUE doitsu...that fish was truly BLUE, and its scales were perfect. I got out of the fish for a while after that, but I eventually went back. We just can't help it. Maybe someone has some frags they'd like to donate?

My condolences Esmi... but like Seamaiden said, maybe some members that have frags can kick a few in; I would, but my corals are fairly small for fragging right now [plus I don't know how!!].

What's wrong, kitten? Anything we can help with here?

Peace,

Chip

Thanks so much, Chip, that is very sweet and kind to care.

I was just very worried about someone very dear to me, but it was just me letting my mind run away with me (I was brought up to worry). He's fine, and all is (relatively) well with the world...my world at least.

Thanks for the concern. I may have to move the tank soon, so any new frags will have to be added after that.

esmithiii,

Those are some beautiful pieces you've lost, but there's plenty of life left in your tank. I hope you don't decide to quit after this. I just fragged my purple A. polystoma and wouldn't mind donating one if it kept you in the hobby.

Oh yeah, I'd like to put in a word in defense of 15yo kids. They really aren't all made the same way.

I helped get one young man accepted as a volunteer at the LBAOP last year. This kid is amazing, talk about KNOWLEDGABLE! He knows a hell of a lot, and he's only been reefing for about 2 years.

That being said, I've known lots more adults who think they know plenty and for that reason can't be taught.

Although I'm not the United Way of propagation, you can check back with me in a couple of months. My latest thing now is buying up all the dying acropora at the LFS for a couple of bucks and fragging them. So far, I'm at an 84% success rate. I'm bound to run out of space sometime.

hi.
Your LFS is a lot more generous than mine. The owner want to charge me full price for a bleached Acropora with only a few polyps near the central tip still alive. He said if he can't sell it, he going to dump it in the live rock pile after the colony is complete dead. But before than, he is asking full price, $44.95, and not a penny less.

I want to say that it's just plain GREEDY to do that, but it is a business. Fortunately, there are some store owners out there that are concerned about coral survival. If someone wants to commit to helping it recover as opposed to just letting it die, a decent person would support that.
