My technique was to put the original colony on baserock let it grow on it, then move the colony and have the remaining tissue stick to the baserock. Has anyone done it that way? Or even better how have you done it? It looks like there is no tear damage, and if there is, what can I do to curtail infection...I keep the tank pristine (water changes 25%/week). I realize some may think these are weeds, but if I can propagate something, I feel like I am eliminating at least some reef destruction.

I usually just cut or rip a hunk off, and hold it to the rock with superglue or use fishing line to tie it to the rock until it attaches. Keep the frag in similar conditions to the parent colony until it recovers. Of course letting it spread onto another rock works great too!

Preventing infection? I have never had that be an issue. If you can grow GSPs well, they should frag without a problem.

I usually cut the GSP with a razor blade rather than just ripping it, but that's more to control how much I frag off. No worries, however you separate a colony it will recover quickly.
