i know that the usual thing for coral feeding is sunlight during the day and plankton at night, but if this is the case why do sps extend their polyps during the day?
i know they extend their polyps a lot more at night but, are they feeding on plankton all the time and if so does it matter if we feed them during the day, rather than at night?

cheers

they say the best method of feeding is a steady drip, 24/7. the trouble is, our closed systems and the filtration we use may or may not hold up, and/or will remove it before the corals can benefit from it.

Another aspect by feeding at night, is that you reduces the risk of getting problem algae in your tank. Especially if the food contains aminoacids.

24/7 feeding does that equate to fish constancy crapping in the water, Given the right amount of fish + fish food imo thats all thats needed for SPS.
Imo if you get the balance of these in check adding extra coral food if fruitless and just adds more pollutants ..

the trouble with that theory is that fish generally don't crap 24/7. they usually crap right after they eat. they also don't crap phytoplankton.
so, it's either feed the fish multiple times per day, or feed the corals.

bear in mind that i don't ever add coral food to my tanks for sps. i use the fish poop method. i'm just repeating what i heard in a lecture.
