Hey guys,
I thought that I would go ahead and post some pictures of my newly set up reef. Here are some specs:

-Custom 11" cube w/ external overflow, and Closed loop w/black base
-70w halide w/ 10k Ushio + dual 18w actinics
-Aquacontroller jr. w/ DC8, lab grade PH probe, and backlit LCD
-Ebo 50w heater
-Fission nano-skimmer
-MaxiJet 900 return pump
-MaxiJet 1200 Closed Loop pump
-Aquadoser for ATO
-Aquamedic Titan 150 chiller (Not set up yet)

The tank was built by Scott at aquaticsystemsdesign.com, and the pendant was built by a member on nano-reef.com. I just put the cooked LR and LS in Friday, so I will wait a couple weeks before I start stocking. The chiller is not hooked up yet because I am waiting on the fittings from Germany. :( Until then, I am relying on a fan to keep the temp down.

There are still a couple microbubbles as you can see, but they should dissapear in a couple days.

NIce little tank ,cool set up

I would cut down the photo period on MH ,you may have a algea prob in the long run with a small tank and all

What type of corals are you going to keep ?

really nice tank

Nice Setup Aaron. I love nanos, especially the cube ones like that with such a clean look! The photoperiod is a little long I think for the halides...but if it works for you..DOO IT! :)

Thanks Tony! The returns are all locline bought from savko.com Here is the website where you can buy directly from them. http://modularhose.com/

Deepwater, thanks for the compliments! I didn't think that the photoperiod on the halide would cause any issues, but I will reduce it now that you mention it. How many hours do you think would be good for the halide? For the stocking, I plan on mostly lps and softies with a few hardy sps mixed in. I want to get a nice, small fish, and some interesting inverts for the tank, but I'm not sure on which ones yet. I am open to suggestions.

Thanks Joe! Right now I am running a fan on the tank, and it is handling the temp perfectly. The evap. is just killing me though. :frown:

Noodle, the fission sucks!! I played with it for like two hours, and I the tiny needlwheel just doesn't produce enough bubbles. The collection cup always fills up with water, but I have no idea from where! lol

Thanks Froggie! I will take everyone's advice on the photoperiod for sure.

If you are doing mostly softies and lps ,Some sps ,4 to 6hrs would be find , you also have to see what temp your tank will get with the lighting.
Again its a really cool system .I like it .And less money to keep it going.

Are you putting only corals?

Aaron, I'm feeling it my friend. Very nice job. I like your choice of equipment. I'm running a 16 gallon with a 150w MH and I can't keep SPS very well (mostly because my bulb temp is 20K). You'll find that 70w for sps is going to be a very serious challenge. Good luck with it. I'll be following your progress.

Sting, thanks a bunch! I don't really think the fission was worth 30 bucks to be honest.

Deepwater, I'd really like to see the tank when I get home at night, so is 8 or 9 hours ok, or is that still pushing it? The temp is pretty managable. Before, I was able to keep it between 78 and 80 even with the 12 hour photoperiod.

I imagine that it won't go through much of a cycle because I put cooked rock in, and sand from an established system. In about a week or so, I will start adding the clean up crew. I plan on having a really small, colorful fish, and some neat inverts also.

Thanks for the help!

Hey Russ! I'm following your thread on nano-reef also. Your tank is awesome, and if I had a taller tank, I would have copied your aquascaping idea. :D

I'm only planning on really easy sps such as monti digis, maybe a monti cap, and probably a small birdsnest frag. I got a 10k in anticipation that the sps would need all the par they can get!

LOL. So 6 hours is what I should shoot for? I'll just go and plug in some numbers on the aquacontroller.
If you are doing mostly SOfties and LPS ,that fine with the Actinics of course .
