T, just get the Corning (pink panther) rigid foam insulation.

As for color of the stain, htf cares? Let her have what she wants outside the tank. A happy wife is a happy life. Accept that and you'll be a much happier married dude.

But my question is where does the foam go the entire tank sits on it or jus the inner glass between the rim on the bottom...

Cut the insulation to mirror the footprint of your tank.

I've never seen anyone put foam under a rimmed bottom tank...and if you do put the foam under it, I hope you cover it with some trimming, cause that pink foam stuff are ugly.

No reason to do foam under a bottom rimmed tank and some manufacturers will not honor the warranty if you do. If the tank has a bottom frame (plastic trim) that keeps the glass from contacting the stand, there should be no foam used between the tank trim and the stand. If it's a flat bottom glass or acrylic, then use foam unless the manufacture states otherwise.

All that is mute as you have built your own stand wich took care of the warranty issue already

Rule to live by, out of 100% of your arguments, only 10% of them are truly worth your effort. The other 90% aren't worth it. Believe me, color of furniture or even your stand falls into the 90% category. Just not worth it.

We picked out a stain color so either staining it tom. Or thursday and 2nd coat friday. Poly will be saturday hopefully. Moving along and waitin for glass baffles to be cut :biggrin:
