Ok here is the story. I knew i was working late and they would of delivered early so i had everything shipped to my sis. House. So she gets the coral shipment at 930 am with ups (they made sure she was home) which dr mac did a fantastic job and called me up later on in the day to confirm everything is ok. The fish order came from a diff. Supplier they sent fedex which just left the fish on the doorstep. My sid left for the day and i was wondering it should have arrived already so know its 12:20 i called the supplier and they confirmed that package was dropped off at 9:45 . So i called my sis and then she called my other sis which lives down the block and picked up the box that was sitting on the steps... So i get to my sis house who picked up the almost frozen fish and my sis said i opened the box they do not look so good. My heart dropped. Took a look they where still breathing, laying on there sides and flapping there lil fins very slowley. So i took what i learned from this great site and gave them a second chance in life and hopefully they do well and survive. They where picken at the rocks so fingers crossed.

Curious as my pink setosa turned orange. What does that mean?

It has a higher population of zooxanthellae.

Tony's corals are all faded in color. From experience I know my setosa would lighten to a pink when nutrient level dipped too low. Other acros would generally lighten up as well and turn pastel. He was dosing vodka, running gfo, huge skimmer, and baking the corals with a long photoperiod of bright light in a shallow reef! Too much of a good thing. We keep SPS for the colors. Allowing for a little more of a nutrient level, and decreasing the amount of light will allow the zooxanthellae to repopulate (darken color).

It is a delicate balancing act. The more zooxanthellae a coral has, the more light it can tolerate. The amount of zooxanthellae is determined by the nutrient level in the aquarium. Balance these two variables correctly and you will have light or dark colored SPS as desired. Lose the balance and you will have brown corals (or dead) and or faded corals.

i.e.This is why back in the day hobbyists would bake corals with 400w 10k and 65k halides to get colors. Most guys will bleach their corals today if they did that because nutrient limiting methods have greatly improved. Carbon dosing methods, MUCH more powerful skimmers, chemical medias, and more education all play their part.
