Post up your dream tank if you had to do it all over again. And what it would cost. What would you do different, things like that.

i'd do a 125-180 gallon reef tank with mainly LPS, some SPS, softies, zoanthids, live rock, live sand, MH with VHO, 40 gallon refugium underneath with live rock and sand, macro algae, next to that, i'd do another 125-180 FOWLR, refugium on bottom, cut out a portion of wall so that you can see both tanks only from the living room... couches in L shaped pattern, with the reef tank and entertainment system making the other L shape...

2x 400watt metal halide with t5 actinic. Turbofloator skimmer, korralin calcium reactor. 4 x tunze stream pumps!

Algae in sump!

1524.9 watts per m2!!!!!!!!

And about 150 times tank turnover current!

360 Gal reef tank. I got the place to put it, I got room for a 90 gal fuge/sump, I got the skimmer already, I would dearly love to be able to afford the tank, the LR, and the lighting.

SIGH! We can all dream can't we?

If i could have had my time again. My 11 ftr would have been at least 3 ft deep/wide. Not 30 inchs. Plus i would have drilled the tank more and had closed loops instead of loads of power sapping and heat generating large power heads. Plus instead of 3 differnat sumps underneath IE:

62x29x24
30x30x30
and a 2x2x1 fresh water top up tank.

I would have had one huge sump like 118inchsx27x 24 and then a slightly larger tank for the fresh water top up as before. The huge sump would be a huge refugium.

I am in the pricing stage of some glass, for my next tank. Possibly 6/7 8x4x3 fowlr system. but will have to wait until next summer at least.

20 feet long, 3 feet high, 4 feet wide. So many corals that the random nibbles by flocks of angelfish and the like dont even matter!

Like I'll ever afford a tank like that! So on a more realistic note, I am working towards making the following tank: Either a 30 or 36" cube, starphyre glass and black silicone (115-200gallons) with a single 1000watt 20,000K bulb over it, a 200o gph closed loop with 4 wave-controlled outputs plumbed through the back and 'penductor'/eductor outlets. My korallin reactor, pinpoint pH controller, my DIY beckett skimmer, a side-oriented three level sump system...with a 45gallon (48"x18"x12") refugium on the top tier overflowing into the tank, a 45gallon plenum in the middle, and 75 gallon sump on the bottom. a dozen large rare crocea and maxima clams, blue tortuosas, green slimer, GSP, red millipora, PPE zoos, blue zoos, pink ricordea, red cap, pink cap, etc. For fish, a 6-line wrasse, pair of mandarins, pair of mated tiger jawfish, potter's angel, etc.

Its a looks thing. I 'booed' and 'baaargh'-ed black silicone when it came out as well...as nothing could look better on clear glass than clear silicone...right? But, my tank stand is black. The back of the tank is painted black. The hanging pendant is black. The black just looks cooler. And after a year, just look at that clear silicone. First of all, when you look at the corner of a tank, it's not clear, it's green. The glass shows it's tint in the corner, so unless you have low-iron glass, your never going to see clear in the first place (unless the glass is really new, but over time it tends to darken up). And then the clear silicone gets all crudded up with crap. Algae, waste, coralline. After a year, that clear silicone edge looks like a green glass edge with crap stuck in it. The black silicone looks the same from the outside however, and even blocks out the view of the 'green glass edge'. Looks like new forever (unless you chunk it up with a razor...but since you cant see through it you dont really bother trying to clean it up like you do with clear).

It just matches everything better. Look at cars. They dont have clear edging around the windows. They have black gaskets and weatherstriping...cuz it looks better. Ok, maybe that was too far, but I'll just say, my opinion has changed, black silicone is the better of the two.

At the moment my dream tank is a 30'x15' shark tank. I am in the process of planning this at the moment, fingers crossed it works out.

Viewed from all 4 places 12'x6'x3'. Two rows of MH with lumenarc reflectors separated by a small planck to walk on for maintenance. Would hae 2 people come and do it all while I sit in a chair with a laser pointer telling them exactly how to do it.
