some pics from smarty pants' house....
and a little update:
she bought an aqua c remora. we put it on the tank and as of now, it's kind of loud(louder than my asm). it also put a ton of microbubbles in the tank(the instructions state this will go away after a while). it pulled some skimmate immediately though. my asm took about a week before pulling decent skimmate.
we went to a local store and she purchased some ricordia mushrooms, and she also got some zoos from a local reefer. the ricordia were 20 bucks a piece, which i thought was pretty cheap, and the zoos were cheaper than that
she also ordered a 20k hqi bulb from ebay, which arrived today. i honestly can't wait to get that yellow bulb out of her fixture!
we went to "That Fish Place" in lancaster, pa. where she bought a rio 2500 for the return from her sump, and we removed the maxijet powerhead, and implemented the rio, by way of a SCWD wavemaker device, and two locline returns.
this setup may be changed, due to the enormous amount of flow in the refugium. i think it's a bit too turbulent, and we might have to go to a closed loop or some other design.
she also bought another pretty large piece of solomon island rock, which is curing at my house.
i gave her a piece of
red sea pulsing xenia,a red tonga shroom, and some green zoos. Oh..and some macros.
lastly, she also purchased a very tiny cleaner shrimp, a little porcelain crab, 2 bumblebee snails, a pretty large mexican turbo, 2 astrea snails, and a firefish goby.
all parameters read zero, including nitrate.
her ph, however, was a bit low(7.9) a few days before the additions. we added a seachem 8.3 ph buffer, which solved that issue. the only thing i can think of is the "reef crystals" salt she is using. both tests were done at the same time of day. the ph remains the same.
some basic brown diatom algae is present on the rock and sand, which we anticipated.
