thanks.
version 1and 3, 2 and 4.....i think that's #3.
what will i have to clean besides the sand out of the barrel?
if i have to clean it, i can shut the ball valves on the CL and drain it. no sweat.
and what do you mean about same size or bigger pipes coming out and in? and no, the intake for the OM is 1.5 inches, and the 4 exhaust ports are 1", which is what i used.

Well, other things could happen with the motor and such. Or you could get something stuck in there for some reason. It might never happen but they just make it easier to remove. ;) They're good before and after pumps too. When you have to clean the pump, you just turn it off, close the valve before it and after, and unscrew the unions and it's out.

Well, I talked to Paul about how I'm doing the flow on my tank. It's similar to what you're doing (outlets are positioned differently). He recommended going with the 2"-in and 1.5" out on the OM. Then, at my tank bulkhead, which are 1", I downsize there.

It just looks like your bulkheads for the output from the OM look bigger than the pipe coming before it.

FYI, the washer and dryer are brand new, we just didn't get a matching set.
meanwhile, the livestock are in their new home. i lost 2 cleaner shrimp, 2 porcelain crabs, and 1 peppermint shrimp in the process.
the peppermint got sucked into the new overflows, down the sump, and into the needlewheel skimmer :? , the rest are MIA.
i'll post some pics tomorrow. i'm extremely happy with the way the lighting looks. the actinics make everything glow, and the 3x 400 watters with the lumenarcs are a night and day difference.

ok. these are the most recent pics. since, i have slightly rearranged some rocks, but you'll get the basic idea. most frags are on the sand bed for now, until i find a final resting place for them

also, are pics of the sump creation and installation. i need to do a few more thngs yet-
1. tuck away all the ugly wires
2. mount the refugium light and transport the macros
3. install the door on the front wall, above the tank
4. get rid of those ugly front closed loop returns, and find something smaller, and more pleasing to the eye.

i'll post more pics this weekend. i am wondering about my DSB in the refugium....should i bring it? should i just scoop it out and turn off my new sump, and drop it in and let it settle?
there is a coating of rock rubble i'll take with me, but i don't want a massive spike by throwing in that stirred up, year old, sand bed. any comments?

im lovin the sump made for 1/10 the price you would normally pay..sweet build..ahhh, if i only had the room..

Not to take away from what x did, but sumps are easaly and cheaply built using a tank and some sort of baffle material. I spent about $110 on mine. 40 gal tank, glass pannels and some silicon.. If I could have found a used tank I could have did it for much less.

Nice job X, btw.

yeap..making a sump is the easy part of this whole thing.
well, here's how i'm leaving the rockwork for now, and a new addition to the tank feasting on an unsuspecting bristleworm.....

i'm not sure if i want to put a backround on the tank or not yet. i do like looking through the back pane while i do my maintenance.

I never knew arrow crabs ate bristleworms. Is this a regular thing that you are aware of, or just something you happened to catch. I may have to add an arrow crab to my tank if that is the case. I'm not sure I can get over the time my last arrow crab ate one of my anemones though.
