Very Nice setup,Mr X.

Looks great.:D As for some corals closing up, it takes them awhile to adjust to the new stronger lighting, a week or two. they'll also have deeper and more vibrant colors when they do.

As a personal opinion, I prefer the Ushio color temp better.

Ps: first post after over a year lurking.

Paf.

thanks pafster. i actually have some softies freaking out and melting away.
and welcome to the forums.

Man, you've got a lot of corals! :)

It's hard to tell with these pictures, but from what I see, I like the Ushio side as well as the Hamilton.

the ushio is in the middle. are you referring to the reeflux?
and as for an abundance of corals, yes, but now i'm starting to weed out the beginner stuff and move on to the more exotic varieties

ushio is the strongest(most PAR) but i like the hamilton 14k's best. a little bluish tint to them. the ushio is very white....a tiny bit of yellow even.
you using 400 watt m59 ballasts?

update:
since the bulb change, i'm having alot of trouble with my zoos, and some lps losing color gradually. i have just purchased 3 new 250 watt ballasts, to replace the 400's, and 3 hamilton 14k's. i want to be able to keep more than sps.

i went with sunlight supply "galaxy" ballasts. i hear they have the same innards as icecap, and i can interchange my mogul sockets and wiring(the quick disconnects are universal).

another problem i have been having is the lack of room for frags, so i'm plumbing in a 30 breeder. the tank is drilled. the trouble is, i was going to use it as a stand-alone tank with it's own sump, but i changed my mind. so now the drain hole in the back is on the wrong side :?
oh well, nothing 3 more feet of pvc can't fix.

just a quick update-
i removed my VHO actinics and replaced them with 4 x 54 watt T-5's which i purchased from hellolights. i'm pretty happy with the look plus, using half the electric.

i have purchased a 50 pound box of live rock, and it's curing in a heated rubbermaid bin.
i've also purchased a used 40 breeder which i'll be using as a sump, and i'll be disconnecting the frag tank from my main display after all.

i just don't feel good about possibly introducing something bad to my main system. when i bring something in i give it a nice dip, but i still feel a bit uneasy.

anyone have a used ASM g1 or g1x laying around?

I just went through the whole thread, and was very impressed. Everything looks fantastic, and the construction is very clean. I wish I could plumb stuff like that...

Peace,

Chip
