i'm in the process of taking my 30 breeder off of the main system and i have purchased a 40 breeder to use as a sump, which will hold as much live rock as i can fit, and a euroreef cs6-1, which i bought used off of a somewhat local reefer.
i have 50 pounds of live rock crammed in that middle compartment...which i thought wouldn't fit. i might end up using a bit more.
meanwhile, here it is cycling...
the 30 breeder is still hooked to the main system until the cycling is done.

Man X, you've really got a sweet pad for reefkeeping there! I've been catching up with your exploits - been off of here for a while now.
First off, I like your bulb comparison pics earlier on. Of your pics, I prefer the Reeflux, but the Ushio looks nice, too. I swapped out my Current 250W 10K for an XM 20K, and it looks heaps better! I also replaced my Current Ocean Actinics and Ocean Blue bulbs (24W T5) with UV Lighting Company Super Actinics (4x24W T5s). I now get much better color rendering from all my corals, clams, algae, etc. I'll try to post pics soon. It's difficult to capture good, viewable pics with the bluer bulbs. Any tips? My build thread is way out of date.
Are you still keeping anemones successfully in your display tank? I'm really wanting one, but I don't think I have room in my 50 for anything that can extend tentacles out very far. Last thing I need is a war.
We've got a new, really excellent store here in Chattanooga now. It's called 5th Day Creations. They carry some of the nicest looking reef specimens I've seen.

ufotofu- i ended up changing out my vho's for uv t-5's also. a nice difference and half the wattage. :wink:
i don't keep anemone. i had one way early on and it didn't end well, so i stay away from them.
as for taking pics with the actinics- i don't know. i just try many different settings, and take about 30 pics, and usually i get 1 or 2 that are satisfactory.
btw- recently i connected the 30 breeder to the 40 breeder sump, and am using a choked back mag7 as return(the bulkhead is not able to handle it wide open
). i've also put a 175 watt hamilton single ended lamp over it with a batwing reflector, and put some corals in there. i don't have room for a refugium doing this, and i am wondering if macros will thrive under a higher kelvin lamp anyway, so i made a little mesh cage and threw some macros in it.
i do have 2 fish in the frag tank, and feed the corals a couple times a week, so anything i can do to export nutrients is good. :wink:

a few weeks ago i had a 14 hour power outtage that wiped out 90% of my fish and inverts. i purchased a generator, but it was a little late.
i pulled the fish i saw out of the tank and tossed them, but there were some unaccounted for. those deaths caused a small spike. miraculously, the corals were only slightly stressed, and the only visible signs were a little cyano here and there.
tuesday i purchased a few new fish to liven up the tank.
the new additions were:
an achilles tang
a maculiceps tang
a purple tang
and a blue spotted jawfish.
the tangs are all doing well.
the jawfish....well...here's a few pics-

the jawfish....well...here's a few pics-
blue spot jawfish are really hard to keep...and i wouldn't recommend them to anyone. i've made the mistake of purchasing one, only to have it come down with brooklynella really bad and croak.
upon doing research, they require cooler waters, are horrible shippers, are prone to several diseases (brooklynella and blue spot jawfish disease), and not to mention they are jumpers.
this is a fish i definitely recommend should be left in the ocean.

wondering what pumps you are using...
I have a 265 fish only and have a little giant 4-MDQX-SC which I'm not happy about at all do to noise and heat transfer...
I've been doing some extensive research and I've narrowed it down to either a Panworld, Blueline (which I believe are the same) or a Reeflo, with Reeflo being the most expensive but its also my understanding that they are extremely quiet and provide almost no heat transfer...only thing, of course is that its a direct drive, there is a shaft and therefore there are seals to worry about...
That being said, what would you recommend based on your experience and setup, in terms of noise, heat and reliability...have you had any issues with your Reeflo?
