This tank is incredible indeed! Just curious: was this inspired by Steve Weast's Oregon tank? There seems to be a lot of similarities (which is to say it's awesome).

Thanks for the kind words, first I have had on here LOL

I actually didnt base this tank on anyone elses tank. I bought the tank used from a fellow reefer and put my own spin on it. I am trying to make a unique look very natural looking

If there is interest I will post some more pics. The tank is 10 months old and an upgrade from my old 175 bowfront

Im just as impressed by the fact that the tank is much bigger than the TV as I am with all those pretty SPS.

nice tank.

What type of clam is that?

Besides the 'school of tangs' what other fish are in there?

If you have an urge to get rid of some frags, send some my way! :P

I just saw the tank. Thanks for the compliment. I dont think its anywhere near that tank, but maybe give it a few years. Thanksgiving will be my one year anniversary on the tank

Not sure on the clam, he is two years old and I got him when he was about 2" across. He is about 10" now

Fish I have are mated pair of maroons, Blond Naso, Purple Tang, Foxface, Scopus tang, 2 yellow tang, 2 bahai cardinals, Coral Beauty, 6 line wrasse, 14" engineero goby (what a joy he is LOL), 2 Chromis, Fairy wrasse, hawkfish, and a scooter bleeny.

I think thats it, just have a few more I want to add. When you have this many sps you need to have a heavy bioload for the coral to feed I have found. When I had few fish my growth wasnt as pronounced as now. Example, I broke a piece of my blue polop encrusting montipora, and in 7 days you couldnt see where I broke it off.

I have a 120 I am setting up for my mom. I was figuring that if there were enough corals, a lot of the bioload would be taken care of before skimmer, which is why I have yet to fork out the money for one  . Unfortunately the build is going pretty slow so there are very few corals, no skimmer, and 3 fish (lost 5 so far; stupid grouper).

I am still trying to figure out water flow. How do you move your water?

Flow is taken care of by my return pump is a sequence Hammerhead which is rated at 5800 gph that I split into 4 seperate returns to the tank. Inside the tank I have 2 Tunze 6100's and 2 6200's on a controller that varies flow on them.

IMO I would say if you are going to keep soft corals you can get away without a skimmer. If you are going to keep SPS a skimmer is almost a must. You will not be able to get the colors you are wanting without it, as eventually the corals will brown on you.

What's your lighting like? Can we see some pics of how it looks inside the "canopy." And how about some more behind-the-scene shots? :D
