This is Brett's old tank, which he did all the work (tank, sump, stand / canopy & side storage for top-off). It came out crazy!
I didn't know he had skills like that

Specs:
20 gal drilled w/ 2 returns & 1" drain. External overflow.
IceCap 150w HQI w/ 14k Phoenix bulb. IceCap 430 pushing 2 18" VHO's.
Sump - about 8 gallons with side compartment for fuge
Tunze 9002 Skimmer
Eheim 1060 for return
Tunze 6045 & Koralia Nano for flow
Phosban reactor
Kalk doser for top-off
ReefKeeper 2 keeping everything on track

Emptied 92 gal

FWIW spa-flex should not be glued. It wasn't meant to be glued. At least that's what they told me at the plumbing supply place by my house (they've been there for 50+ years). A friend who is a master plumber (not Ronen) said in spa use it's joined with hose barb and that all flex hose should be joined with hose barb. He said the manufacturer also does not recommend using glue. Just food for thought. FWIW Ronen concurred with him that spa should not be glued and when it's used in a spa setting it was always joined with hose barbs. The reason being that the "glue" or solvent will not bond properly to flex pvc. It's not the same material as regular pvc, it's also not glue but solvent. Since the two different materials cannot be solved together like regular pvc you do not get a true weld. The ridges of the flex pvc also prevent a true weld between the two pieces.

The angle at which the spa is after the union on your return line looks like a recipe for disaster.

I heard that too Fred, but I plumbed my 65 like this & it was ok. I haven't read or heard of any disasters.
Maybe long term it might have an effect, but this a temp tank

looks nice Phil. Jim did a great job setting up the tank.

you can glue spa-flex they make a solvent for it. you have to be careful which type of pvc fittings you glue it to. I don't remember the names, but the fittings with the short sleeves will not bond well with the flex, the fittings with the long sleeves bond well and make a permanent joint. Fred you can come over and try to pull my plumbing apart

I hear you on the bend to the union. That was me changing the return pump from Mag 7 to the Eheim.
Jim put the pieces so tight I had to cut off the old union.
The one pictured was the only one I had at the time & I'm gonna replace it.
I left a little bit of slack on both ends, so when I replace the union...it won't be too short.

Just use hard pipe. Come right off the pump into a true union ball valve ($8) at lowes or HD. Then use hard pipe the rest of the way up with either one 90 degree elbow or two 45 degree elbows. Or put the union ball valve up near the bulkhead and pipe down to the pump.

You could also vinyl hose it if you wanted to a Hose barb.
