Dubs, thank you. I definitely know that having a sump is something that is tried and true but their is just this itch that I need to scratch concerning this setup and the more exciting part of that it's a challange that I am definitely in taking. Hopefully everything works out for me and everyone can see for themselves. If not then the jokes on me. I'm a bit hard headed but I do have reasons why I think this will work as well. Feel free to keep tagging along.

I guess you like to spend money . and not listen to people that been doing this for 20 year or so.
Canister filter are nitrate factory in a reef tank unless you are going to clean that canister every day then you will be fine but thats alot of work. A sump not even that much work at all . So unless your going to test every day and do water changes to keep you nitrate down good luck with that. Like i say if your going to do it do it the right way or dont do it at all.

I'm going to make a suggestion for this setup.. you should definitely post your plans on here. Reefs aren't terribly difficult, but it does take some planning and thought (not saying you're not doing any of the above)..

In addition, are you planning on running a skimmer at all? I strongly, strongly suggest doing so. If you end up going the skimmer route, take a look at the ATB Multi Use Cone that's for sale on here. It's a very good skimmer that can be used as a Hang on Back (HOB)

E.inthec, I am definitely looking into different aspects when considering what equipment or process to utilize on my aquarium. In the end, if it doesn't make complete sense to me or I see another way of doing things then I am definitely going to take my route. As for the protein skimmer. I plan on purchasing a Deltec MCE600 for use on this aquarium. I will take a look at the ATB Multi-Use Cone. Can you send me a Private Message with the link to it?

You want to go sumpless. No point in trying to persuade him... he doesn't want to drill period.

So a sumpless tank, the main restriction is lack of good equipment but it is possible to get good stuff.

You are on the right track. A Deltec MCE600 is a fantastic skimmer and the best part is your tank can be flush with the wall as it doesn't have to hang out.

Also figure out water circulation. No return pump so make sure that your pumps have really good randomized direction. I don't know your budget but I would go with Koralia 4's or 2 Vortechs MP40s.

The next thing is water polishing... I firmly believe in running carbon or some type of media to keep your water pristine. A phosban reactor would be great or if you do the HOB skimmer route the Reef Octopus has a compartment for you to run media which is a genius idea.

Anyway the tank is going to look great given that you seem to be a meticulous individual that is taking his time. Good luck and I look forward to seeing the tank thread lol

Aznt1217, thank you for understanding. I definitely fell that the Deltec MCE600 is a perfect Protein Skimmer for my needs. Also I haven't been giving water circulation too much thought currently but I definitely will be considering Ecotech Marine Vortech MP10 with the Wireless feature. I want to keep their footprint on the back of the aquarium glass small as to not draw too much attention since I have yet to think of a method of concelling the pumps without effecting their overalll performance. Another reason that I am leaning toward the MP10's is that they consume less power and run longer when connected to the battery backup that Ecotech Marine sells, about 72 hours. Also I definitely will be utilizing a series of fluidized reactors from Deltec utilizing eheim pumps. But I would rather keep my thoughts in this thread more like a journal and discuss and tackle things as they are happening.

Reply to Nl146.

MP10s are built for nanos. How many r u thinking about getting for your 120?

Nl146, I was considering using four Ecotech Marine MP10w ES in the aquarium but considering two Ecotech Marine MP40W ES. I know I am going to utilize Ecotech Marine products for flow but it is someting that I still have to do homework on. The Ecotech Marine MP10w ES provide a much smaller footprint on the back of the aquarium and provide much longer battery backup times and would give me almost the same amount of overall flow in the aquarium but with the ability to fine tune the flow with 4 points in the aquarium than 2. But honestly I need to do a bit more homework and contact the guys at Ecotech Marine to have some questions answered. I want to be able to conceal the vortech if possible and not restrict their flow but I am not sure how I can do that just yet.

You'll be fine with 3 Vortech MP10's. All at Max on Reef Crest mode. You can absolutely conceal them and to really distribute and modify your flow... it's going to come down to your aquascaping my friend.

Aznt1217, I definitely think so but I guess we are going to have to see when I get up to that part of the build. But I think I know a way to align all three or four. Still haven't completely decided.

First Part of My Marco Rock Delivery.

I just received the first part of my Marco Rocks delivery. 40 lbs. of Bahamas Aragonite sand. Which allowed me to get the perfect 3/4" to 1 inch of sandbed that I wanted for the sand bed. The sand is fine and honestly was a great deal. The United Stated Postal Service guy was not happy about having to carry this up the stairs to my door. The second part of the shipment should be here today.

Marco Rocks Shipment Delivered.

Well FedEx delivered my shipment of Marco Rocks Key Largo Rock and I have some free time to get the aquascaping done. The FedEx driver was not happy about hauling up 100 lbs of Precured Rock. With Some Instant Ocean Putty and a little imagination I managed to put together some pretty decent aquascaping. Their is currently 90 lbs of Key Largo Rock inside the aquarium.
