actually no angel is reef safe at all, some are just more likely to eat corals than others. for example someone might get a swallowtail that will eat corals and someone else might get one that doesnt, just saying

ive heard its really a hit or miss.

im looking into wrasses now they seem to be very vibrant as well. i dont like fish which hide all day

The sump is all ready - did leak test and all cleaned ready for plumbing.

The sump is made of 3 sections. The largest section is where the drain for the overflow system goes to ( 3 drain pipes ) and where the frag rack will all sit. I will be using this section as a frag / growout area.

The second section is where the skimmer will sit. So far Im using a SWC Extreme 160 skimmer but unsure if its too weak for my tank size. I do plan on having a medium to heavy bioload. I might have to upgrade in the future - any suggestions?

The last section is where the Eheim 1262 pump sits. It'll have a small section for some magroves which I'll need to partition.

excuse the mess and my toes :tongue1:

Section 1 Frag Area/Drain is right of my right foot.
Section 2 Skimmer Section is left of my left foot.
Section 3 Return Pump Section furthest from my foot.

looking good so far, There are a few angels you can try though that have better success rates at not picking. The Flameback and Argis are probrably the best after the bellus and swallowtails, and a few others in that genus

mangroves dont do much unless you have alot of them, better off with other types of macro for nutrient removal.
how much space foot print wise do you have for a skimmer, is noise a issue, power usage ect.

Umm, I have a 12x 10 slot for the skimmer, its rather tight so nothing too big. The stand height can accommodate roughly 25" in height, where the sump is 16" tall. Water level is about 8-9" height in the skimmer section.

Noise and power are very important to me - I want something very quiet and doesn't make any sort of humming noise or buzzing noise. Power usage, I like to use the least electricity as possible. Most of my equip are fed through the manifold via the return pump to save on power as well as the use of LEDs.

Pricing of skimmer is also a factor- I'm looking for less than $350 range for the best bang for the buck.

I was eyeing the multibar angel or golden angel - any idea if these are ok?

you will be much better with Cheato as your macro.. mangrove doesnt work nearly aswell and calupera is invasive and can become a problem.

as for skimmer. take a look at the new ATI Power cone. this skimmer is the new gold standard for skimmers, more effective less electric..

that skimmer looks real neat. ima do some research on it. thanks

Happy New Year Everyone!

I got to work on my tank this weekend and made some progress. I finished the plumbing of the tank. I'm running 1.5" drains on my beananimal overflow system, along with 1" returns which includes a manifold and fed by an Eheim 1262 pump.

I tried to be very careful with the pvc primer but messed up as it wasn't perfect :shhh:

Ok tonight i ran into my first problem. It seems like my brand new Eheim 1262 rated for 900gph at 12ft max head isn't powerful enough. I plumbed it as a 1" return diverted with a tee fitting one on each side of the back through my eurobraced holes.

The overflow box is bean animal style (3 drains - one main siphon, one part time siphon and one emergency drain) These are 1.5" pipes and is rated for 2300gph. It seems that my eheim doesn't pump water fast enough to the tank in order to fill the overflow box quick enough, causing the pipes to suck in some air and cause a gurgling noise.

I tried dialing down my drains to slow down the drain speed and hoping it'll fill the box but seems like the eheim still couldn't fill the tank and overflow quick enough.

Any ideas? or should I just get a more powerful pump?

show a pick of the over flows

I was thinking last night it may not be the pump - and prob maybe something wrong with my plumbing as their is noise. Well the noise is called because there isn't enough water to cover the siphon pipes.

The full siphon has a ball valve to control the flow. The Open Chanel (right with the blue tube) is designed similar to the full siphon but seems to be handling most of the flow when it shouldn't be. This pipe seems to be causing the noise as the water level cannot get high enough to fill the overflow box.

The Emergency Drain is the one facing upwards - this one is fine.

* The water is so high in the sump as the power shut off and this will be enough for a power failure coming down from the display.
