Fiddling with new camera

Just trying to work with the kit lens for now and see what I can do from there.

need to get a good macro lens for it (Nikon D40) and welcome any recommendations.

Picked it up yesterday and took first shots tonight. Whadya think?

Timbo, I need a good recommendation on the macro lens - the D40 has something going on where only certain lenses fit - any advice on a good macro would be awesome. I know Tamron, but which one

Jim I use the tamron 90mm 2.8, it should fit that body.

I took the advice from threads here and I think it was jhale that recommended the 90mm Tamron. I have had it for a while, just haven't had enough time to really go at it with a tripod. It has been since a long time since I took real photos. Anyone know if the Tamron 90mm for my xti will fit the D40? If so I can let you try it out.

fwiw I never use a tripod. I just increase the iso. you'll never catch a fish using a tripod.

J, I think I changed the ISO to 600 - really unclear how to read the directions - need a quicker how to guide

when I got my nikon I was completely confused. It took me days to read through the manual and figure everything out. in the end it's worth learning everything the camera can do, it will make a real difference in the work you get out of it.

I only use a tripod if I'm taking ridiculous macro shots of coral. Otherwise, I don't bother either. I like to be able to move.

When you get your new lens, get a 'greyscale' card It will help you set white balance spot on.
