Hey everyone.
I'm helping out with a tidal tank at an environmental and youth development organization called Rocking the Boat in the South Bronx. The tank has seen better days and I'm trying to give them a hand to get it back on track.
It's a 150 gallon tank with a large sump and an 80 gallon shallow tidal tank that fills and drains every few hours.
The kids in the program catch wildlife from the Bronx River to fill their tank. It's a great opportunity to teach the local youth about the wildlife in their neighborhood and to help teach the responsibility we all know is required to care for a tank. It has always been a huge attraction and I would love to bring it to the point where it's really something for them to marvel at.

I'm looking for a large protein skimmer for them. It would probably have to be in-sump and no more than 24"s tall. The space they have is 26", but we would have to remove the collection cup. I would be willing to consider something external. I may have to check out the space again though if it comes to that.
Also, since this is a non-profit, we are looking for something that is going to do a great job, but nothing that is going to completely break the bank.

Please send me a pm with what you have and how much you are looking to get for it. Or if you have a large tank and a recommendation, that would be great too. I was thinking a larger Octopus but am open to other ideas.

Thank you all for your help

Christian,
From my understanding, the Bronx River is a freshwater river (the only fresh water river in NYC btw). Taking livestock from the Bronx River would therefore be freshwater, not saltwater compatible. Using a protein skimmer on freshwater is useless and will not provide any filtration.

Hope this helps and good luck with your project.

Nope. The collection sites are right at the mouth of the river and the salinity fluctuates with the tide and has a median around 1.018. The tank is kept between 1.018-1.020
Thanks though Russ.
