I was looking for Bergia Nudibranchs to naturally balance out my Aiptasia. Want to pick up around 8 breeding size adults. Figured I would check forum before ordering online. New to the MR, went to frag swap on Sunday & joined the very next day.

Hi milk

I would do a search on the nudis ,as none of us had any success with them ,and we all tried :(

you can take a chance ,but im guessing it will be a waste of $$$ JMO

Thanks for the heads up

I appreciate the feedback? I had a sneaky suspicion that it was to good to be true. That?s why it?s good to be part of a community that has experienced many things within the hobby. What did you guys do to get rid of the GA?? I don?t want to use Alk or JJ because of the potential side affect of my corals. I heard that there is a predator worm that eats bergia but I am yet to find it. Thnks again for the heads up

I had great success with them. Your water quality should be very good and when placed in the tank, they should be placed far from any aptasias. They are most vulnerable when first introduced and the aptasias can kill them instead.
I feel that if your water quality is good, you will not have an outbreak in the first place. I had my issues during the big black out a few years ago and I was away. When I got home, I hit the parameters first, then introduced the nudi.
If they are unable to live in your tank, it's probably a water quality issue. Make sure to check your parameters first before you get them.

Interesting

I first noticed the bergia on a piece of live rock I bought 6 months back. It was only one very small one back then. I nurtured it (direct feeding) until it became very large. When I identified it (1 week into me having it) I didn?t bother getting rid of it because I thought it was kind of cool (If only I knew). Then it started to sting my yellow mushroom. I promptly ripped it out of my tank only to find several more a few days later. I then destroyed those & sucked out remains. This lead to a larger outbreak. Lastly I tried a Kalk mix which seemed to work?. but you know what happened next. Not only did they spread but also it seemed to affect some of my polyps. I haven?t touched them & they haven?t multiplied since, but they have grown very large. I think they are growing by eating my very large invertebrate running all over the tank. What I wanted to do is breed half the bergia in a separate tank & put the other 4 in my display tank. Any feedback on how you gave them their best chance of survival would be great

Just get one. Leave the breeding to the guys you buy them from. If you're asking me about their best shot at survival, I doubt you will be able to breed them.
As a matter of fact, before you waste money on one, make sure your water is good. If you do not have a base line of water parameters, you are going to kill one... or 8.

I picked up on that too Dean. I think he meant aptasia, not berghai.
Either way, I'm starting to feel like I should have left this one alone.

Ouch

Thanks for the advice. Excuse the typo/rambling; it?s been a long night. Water quality is good; I will pick up a couple & give it a try.
