Is this tank done with it's cycle yet? How long has it been up? What are your parameters?

From your other threads it doesn't seem like your tank is ready for livestock yet.

I appreciate you caring. I got this tank from a guy who had it running for 7 months. Pretty much transferred the tank from his house to my house. He gave me about 3 or 4 frag coral. I've had the tank running for a week now. Everything seems pretty healthy. When you say parameters, what do you mean? The previous owner gave me all of his test kits, so what should I test before I add anything? Thanks.

Parameters = Salinity, Cal, Alk, Mg, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH, and anything else you can possibly test for.

I understand this is an established tank from another reefer but the 7 month clock stopped ticking when it was mover to your house from his. It started over then so the tank will go through a mini cycle. You should read your other threads as alot of good info has been put there. One of the best pieces of info is to go slow, don't rush. If you do in fact rush things you will kill most things that go into your tank and that is not good.

Immediate gratification in this hobby is bad. All the info the LFS gave you forget it, whatever LFS they are they don't know spit and are just trying to sell you stuff to pad their wallets and drain yours quickly.

Thanks. The previous owner gave me a bunch of different test kits, so i'll test for whatever I'm able to. I'm waiting on a refractometer so, i can't test the salinity right now. Would you say, everything you listed there, should defintely be tested for before I add some stuff. BTW. I am going to go slow. I'm an impatient person at first, but after the $$$ issue gets put into my head, I slow myself down. Anything else I should test for that you think is important to know. I think imma go to this other LFS, that is good, but charges a lot of money for everything. I'm going to tell them that I'm new to the hobby, (get them thinking that I might start going to their fish store whenever I buy something) ask them to test my water, and then leave. This is the place that sells already mixed salt water for $4/gallon. Thanks.

You keep saying the LFS but which LFS are you talking about. Please be specific of all you have dealt with.

Yes everything I listed must be leveled out before you add any live things. I am thinking about things that have been posted and it feels like it is validation you are seeking not advice and that becomes very frustrating when it comes down to the questions you are asking.

Thanks for replying so quickly. The LFS that I am scared about and that gave me the bad advice, is normally the one I'm talking about in all these threads. But since I will no longer be going there I will never refer to the store as my "LFS". BTW, that LFS is actually not a pet store, but its a fish wholesale warehouse called FISH FISH FISH. It actually has really good prices, so that's why I went there with my friend. I live in the greenwich, and the only real saltwater fish store in my area is a place that charges a lot of money for everything. Pretty much because the store is in Greenwich, CT. House of Fins is the name of the store and it is actually on this websites directory. This store would technically be my "LFS" but its too expensive. I can tell I'm starting to annoy some people on the forum, and I apologize for that. As you know, I'm new to the hobby and was told about this website. Once I realized how quickly I can get advice, I jumped all over it and have continued to ask away. Sorry again, if im annoying people. I just wanna make sure I'm doing everything right. Chiefmcfuz, I'm kind of doing both. I don't know much yet, but am starting to do a lot of research, and I pretty much want validation that what I hear and what I read, is correct. And at the same time I am asking a bunch of questions. I'm pretty much looking for any type of feedback. Just wanna hear how people feel about the topics Im writing about. Wow. This is long. Sorry.

MY 1st set of advice would be take a sedative. RELAX take a deep breath. You are on overdrive right now and nothing in this hobby comes easy just like nothing in life does. SOO many people jump in wanting to put 100 corals and 100 fish in and have an instant masterpiece. These people are stupid and waste THOUSANDS of dollars because of their own ignorance. FOR EXAMPLE I met a guy who I bought a tank from a few years ago he told me his fish always died. I asked if he acclimated them, he replied " NO I just came home and threw them in". The guy said he would go spend $400 on fish and they would just die..granted he was a millionaire but a stupid one obviously. He should have just paid someone to maintain the tank but instead he just wasted money and killed innocent fish.

The 2nd set and you will here this from anyone who knows what they are talking about READ, READ, READ..not only this site but google things too maybe even read a book or 2. It will give you alot more insight. There will be pictures to see and tons of information. The internet is absolutely amazing. There is so many things to worry about with this hobby which is why it is so damn expensive and takes decades to master. There are more ways to screw up your tank than you can imagine. It's not just ph,nitrates, calcium etc. It's not even about lighting, proper equipment etc. Those are the EASY parts. You need to focus on learning about disease and parasites. These are things that can destroy your entire system very quickly. Worms, bugs, various algaes and other pests. There is so many things in this category and many people overlook it.

Follow the advice that everyone has given you and you will be just fine and Welcome to MR by the way :splitspin
